Who is Jay Breakstone?

Jay L. T. Breakstone is one of the foremost appellate attorneys in the country in the field of personal injury. With over 30 years’ experience as a practicing attorney, Jay has immensely varied experience in many areas of the law, including criminal defense, commercial litigation and, of course, personal injury.

Appellate Counsel

He is now Appellate Counsel with the firm of Parker Waichman LLP. Jay is a prolific writer who draws from his experience to share his perspective on cases in the news, personal injury issues, and more. Jay has represented many famous figures in both civil and criminal cases, with over 200 reported appellate decisions.

Experienced

He has handled every imaginable kind of lawsuit, from securing Kosher food for Jewish prisoners in federal custody to the rights of activist priests; from dealing with complex federal wiretap cases to children in Peru damaged by an American corporation pouring lead into their community. Jay Breakstone serves his community as the President of the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association, is an elected trustee of this own town’s school board and even stood as a New York State Assembly candidate in 2004.

He is also the creator of MondayMonday, a popular weekly newsletter for New York’s top trial attorneys. A graduate of Long Island University (B.A., 1972) and Brooklyn Law School (J.D., 1976), Jay has lectured at C.W. Post College and Five Towns College, and has taught other attorneys in continuing legal education courses at St John’s University School of Law, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the New York County Lawyers Association.
